FCT, Abuja, Nigeria

This is the bedrock in which the Association of Former Female Athletes of Nigeria ® (AFFAN) was birthed!!! Women…more often than their male counterparts, have against all odds struggled for space in the sporting universe—sacrificing their very existence and family to go far and beyond in imprinting Nigeria’s name on the pedestal of great sporting nations. Trendsetters like track & Field legends, Mary Onyali- Omagbemi & Falilat Ogunkoya, Nigeria’s first individual gold medalist at the Olympics, Chioma Ajunwa-Opara, Sporting Matriarchs Modupe Osikoya, Princess Bola Jegede and many others have for many decades proven Nigeria’s sporting success is attributable to women—both by sheer numbers and impact. In spite of this, women have systematically suffered degradation and neglect in Nigeria far worse than their male counterparts. It is on this basis that AFFAN as an autonomous non-profit body was set up to provide an all encompassing structure that would enable retired and active female athletes use their wealth of experience to improve the wellbeing of Nigerian women in sports whilst impacting the future generation through some of its beneficial activities like; GirlsRGame© , GirlsRGame. TV, © AFFAN Mini Sports Fest© , iImpact Campaign© , AFFAN Nigeria WISE Awards© AFFAN Academy For Sports Talents© . AFFAN’s carefully designed activities is a deliberate approach that will influence positive public opinion, generate more support for female sports as well as reshape the mindset of the younger generation through purposeful , yet, appealing mentorship and attractive line of events that will propel true patriotism. Primarily, AFFAN desires to impact the future.
